Farewell Tour – trip notes

home

This was a long, emotionally-draining, but scenic trip through California, Oregon and Washington in July and August 2006 for the purpose of saying goodbye to friends and family. We loaded up the RV for the last time and headed out on July 5. We returned home August 6 just in time for Jennifer to start the second grade on the 7th. In between, we saw many friends and family. Each visit was too short, and each goodbye too difficult. We drove 4,600 miles, blew two tires and repaired another. We spent about $1,200 on diesel. However, it was all worth it.

We left home in Glendale, Arizona and headed straight to the California coast. We drove up Highway 1 (much fun with a 31 foot trailer) and visited my eldest step-daughter Christina in Marina, CA. From there we wandered for over a week through California visiting friends, churches and relatives. On to Battle Ground, Washington for a week-long visit with my mom and other family. We saw many sites during that week in southwestern WA. Back to California along the eastern side and down through the central valley, culminating with the wedding of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Wade in Sanger, CA.

If you were among those we visited, thank you for your hospitality. If we missed you, we apologize. One month was too short to see everyone. We have comfort in the knowledge that we will see you in heaven, unless circumstances permit or require me to return to the states one or more times over the next few years.
