![]() In 1845, Dan's great-great-great grandfather, Truman Bonney, traveled the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon. The young boy left his mark on a rock near the Green River in Wyoming enroute. From studying other inscriptions in the area, it appears Truman was the first to do so. Many others inscribed their names and dates after that. Here, Dan's mom Shirley, and a cousin, Bill Guthrie, stand near the rock. |
![]() The location of the inscription is highlighted by the red box. |

![]() The heavily laden covered wagons, with their steel tired wheels, left an indelible mark on the landscape. The ruts are in Wyoming. This part of the trail is called the Sublette Cutoff. It was used by the 1845 train in which my great-great-great grandfather traveled. |
